Garden view
Welcome to Garden Explorer. Houston Botanic Garden displays plants from every continent but Antarctica in America’s fourth largest city. The galleries and biome gardens that house our Living Collections aim to enrich life through discovery, education, and the conservation of the natural environment. To keep track of the Living Collection and better serve our community, we document and map plants across our 132-acre site and share that information with the public.
This Garden Explorer is your key to unlocking the more than 1,200 different taxa living in our cultivated gardens and native ecosystems. Whether you are planning your visit and want to know the location of your favorite plant, or you are researching unique cultivars of a specific species, you can find the breadth of Houston Botanic Garden’s collection right here.
The Garden Explorer database is a work in progress. We regularly update and expand the content, so check back often for updates. Here are some tips to use this tool to its fullest capabilities:
SEARCH looks up plants by name or location
MAP zooms and scrolls through gardens, beds, and individual plants
BROWSE lists plants by genus
FEATURES locates non-botanical waypoints like benches, art, and facilities
TOURS suggests guided, themed experiences throughout the Garden’s displays
